Dull needles = micro-injuries
A blunt tip tears rather than punctures — triggering inflammation, not collagen. Every session should feel intentional.
Reuse = infection risk
Each cartridge is sterile at first use. After contact with skin, the tip is no longer sterile. One cartridge, one session.
Fresh tip = optimal results
The precision channel geometry works correctly only on a sharp, new tip. This is the difference between a session that works and one that doesn't.
Choosing the right cartridge
All SkynPen cartridges create the same micro-channels — the difference is in the pattern, coverage speed, and how targeted the treatment feels.
Most targeted, slowest coverage. Best for small areas: around eyes, upper lip, acne scars on specific zones. Use when you want to work on one problem area at a time.
Best for: targeted treatment, sensitive zones
Faster coverage of larger areas. Ideal for full-face sessions — cheeks, forehead, jawline. The higher the pin count, the faster the session but the lighter the pressure per needle.
Best for: full-face sessions, regular maintenance
The finest channels — barely felt during treatment. Focuses on skin texture, enlarged pores, and early fine lines. More about stimulating the surface than deeper collagen remodelling.
Best for: texture, pores, gentlest experience
Not sure where to start? The 12-pin is the most versatile. It works on most areas, most people find it comfortable for their first sessions, and it gives you good control over coverage.
Why fresh cartridges matter
Dull needles change how your skin responds
A fresh needle creates a precise vertical channel. A used needle — even after one session — begins to blunt and bend at the tip. Instead of a clean puncture, it creates a micro-tear. Your skin heals differently from a tear than from a channel: more surface inflammation, less targeted collagen response.
Sterility only applies once
Each cartridge is sealed and sterile before first use. The moment it contacts skin, that sterility ends. Using the same tip twice — even on yourself — introduces skin bacteria, sebum, and cellular debris into open micro-channels in the next session. This increases the risk of irritation and breakouts, not from the device, but from what's on the tip.
Your results are only as good as the tool
The mechanism behind microneedling is precise: create a controlled micro-injury, trigger the repair response, let the skin rebuild. Every element of that process depends on the needles doing exactly what they're designed to do. A fresh cartridge per session isn't a upsell — it's the protocol that makes the results possible.
